Daniele Borio

Dr. Daniele Borio is a scientific officer in the “Land and Climate” unit of the European Commission (EC) Joint Research Centre (JRC). He is a signal processing expert active in the fields of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and Remote Sensing. He has provided sustained contributions in the field of GNSS signal processing, focusing on the theory of GNSS meta-signals and effective countermeasures against GNSS threats such as jamming and spoofing. He received the Institute of Navigation (ION) Burka Award in 2012 and 2023. He is the recipient of the ION 2025 Thurlow Award. Dr. Borio has also been contributing to the ESA/JRC International Summer School on GNSS, providing lectures on GNSS threats and organizing labs on GNSS signal processing. Previously, he served as a Senior Research Associate at the University of Calgary, Canada (2008–2010). He holds M.S. degrees in Communications Engineering from Politecnico di Torino and Electronics Engineering from ENSERG/INPG (Grenoble, France), as well as a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino.
